Green With Envy - Wall Color That Cools You Down

Living in the desert can be a very hot experience.  There are days when even the air conditioning doesn't seem to cool things down inside your home.  This year, 2002, in Las Vegas, Nevada, there hasn't even been measurable rain to help ease the dry, hot conditions.  What do you do if you are a person craving a cool environment?  Well, of course, you paint your walls green.  Yes, I said green; but only if you use The Blue Base/Yellow Base Color System
© to focus on the green that's right.

The words, “green walls”, sound nauseating.  Green was used in the interior of a French airlines and everyone arrived home sick.  They ultimately had to change the interiors at great expense.  Choosing just any green can be horrifying.  How can furniture, carpeting, woods, and people come together in harmony with green walls?  Yes, it is possible with the Blue Base/Yellow Base Color System© and a color guide (click color tools and then large color guide on this web site).  Note that there are teal greens, pine greens, and just ordinary greens that you would not want to put onto your walls unless you were creating a dramatic affect, or making a statement wall in a business or large commercial building. But, for those of you that have now purchased the large color guide available on this web site, look on pages 53, 54, 55, & 56.  These are the greens that are cool, warm, and inviting on your walls.  Yes, a color can
be cool and warm at the same time depending on your spectrum.  Remember, both spectrums have cool and warm colors and it depends on what spectrum you are as to how you perceive the color being viewed.

My neighbor, who has become a real fan of the website and color system, called me with a plea for “help!”   “Please come and look at my home and help me choose a 'green' paint for the walls of my home.  I really want this color.  I think it will make the home feel cooler.”   Remember, we all live in Las Vegas and she was definitely feeling the heat.  Her present walls were white.

I went down to her home and together we chose a main color for walls and a tone deeper for the accents and trims.  Below is the color as close as we can show via the website technology, but look on your color fan deck at page 55 for a “real” look.   Number 55 F and E
can give you a closer look at the color you are viewing.

Yellow base is not left out.  The color choice for this environment can be found on page 102, E & F.   These numbers are guides and can be custom mixed to perfection with your local paint company, carpet swatches, and other décor samples as the final word.

My neighbor has shared with me how much she loves her new look.  Her large family visits often.  They all enjoy great conversations in the very peaceful environment.  I was really impressed with the fact that you don’t even notice the walls but rather the feelings they evoke.  They are warm, inviting, calm, and cool.  They are a backdrop for the carpet and furniture.  You just want to relax and enjoy.

WOW, green walls!  This is definitely the age of playing with and enjoying color in your life and making it work for you. Whether you are a blue base or yellow base person, you can choose the green that’s right.
